Luxembourg's monarchical head of state is turning 65 this Thursday. His son is also celebrating his birthday today.

Prince Henri of Nassau was born on 16 April 1955 in Betzdorf Castle to Grand Duke Jean and Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte. Henri was the couple's second child, but as their first born son, he was first in line to the throne because of primogeniture laws.

On 12 November 1964, when Prince Henri was only nine years old, his grandmother Grand Duchess Charlotte abdicated in favour of his father Jean, who became the new Grand Duke of Luxembourg. This made Prince Henri the heir apparent to the throne of Luxembourg.

The Grand Duke is turning 65 this Thursday.

The Grand Ducal family is also celebrating the birthday of prince Sébastien today. He is the youngest son of Grand Duke Henri and his wife Grand Duchess Maria Teresa. He was born on 16 April 1992 - his father's 37th birthday. Sébastien can blow out 28 candles today.

We wish them all the best!
