According to Reporter.lu, the landfill in Differdange is yet to obtain the required official authorisations.

The Differdange landfill site is used for the disposal of hazardous industrial waste and operates without a clear legal framework, Reporter.lu reported this Tuesday. The site is reportedly yet to obtain the required official authorisations.

Public administrations have nevertheless tolerated the disposal of dangerous waste for years. The waster mainly comes from the steel production site located on a 150 hectare piece of land between Differdange and Sanem.

The Ministry of the Environment told Reporter.lu that the landfill site was indeed illegal as no minister ever authorised their activities.

The municipal authorities of Differdange and Sanem have long called for action - unsuccessfully so far. The lands in question are owned by ArcelorMittal and the state.
