Beginning next week, patients in Luxembourg with specific disease symptoms can get medical cannabis prescribed by their doctor.

The first doctors had to attend a mandatory training in order to prescribe cannabis for therapeutic use.

150 doctors took part in the training that lasted a whole day in the National Health Laboratory in Dudelange. Dr Jean-Claude Schmitz, director of the National Health Laboratory, emphasised that this training is mandatory for any doctor who wants to prescribe cannabis to their patients.

A list of doctors who took part in this training will be published and updated on their website. With the prescription, patients can get the medical cannabis from one of four bigger hospital pharmacies. The government covers the full costs of the medical cannabis.
