The CSV is perhaps relieved to say goodbye to 2018. At the New Year's reception, the party claimed it will look ahead to working as the opposition in parliament and the European elections.
Despite the hopes to have celebrated the new year as the government party, the atmosphere in Niederanven was still cheery. Whilst still critical of the government's measures, which will not make up for difficult times, the party has relaxed its declaration of war against the government.
The main focus for the CSV is the national congress on 26 January, where the party will elect a new president, either Serge Wilmes or Fränk Engel. Both candidates were confirmed at the reception.
