The construction work on the new shopping mall in Cloche d'Or/Ban de Gasperich is moving along steadily but swiftly, with the grand opening expected to take place in less than 200 days.
On Wednesday, a delegation of politicians including economy minister Étienne Schneider and Luxembourg City mayor Lydie Polfer visited the building site. Even during this visit, the whizzing of power saws was still audible and workers using welding machines and other tools provided a busy backdrop for the delegation's visit.
The new shopping mall is expected to become the centrepiece of the area and a highlight in the greater region. Rough estimates suggest that the number of customers per year could be as high as 11 million—or about 36,000 per day.
Around 30% of the 140 shops that will move into the completed shopping mall do not yet have a branch in the greater Luxembourg region, which means that the shopping mall will likely become a magnet for many people living in and around Luxembourg.
Architecturally, the shopping mall will be filled with light and divided into several well-structured galleries arranged in the shape of an ellipse. White will be the dominant (non-)colour.
