The pending completion of the investigation was first reported by "De Journal" on Tuesday and the news has since been confirmed by a spokesperson for the court.

The tragic and fatal railway crash occurred on 14 February 2017 on the train line between Bettembourg and the French town of Zoufftgen when a French freight train and a Luxembourgish passenger train collided with each other.

One person was killed in the crash close to Bettembourg.

The newspaper "De Journal" received confirmation that the last report of a Swiss expert was sent to the examining magistrate in the case last week.

After a legal request in the US, the messenger data of the deceased machinist was analysed.

It is now up to the examining magistrate to decide whether to charge people with crimes or whether to file the case as done.
