Private aviation has existed for numerous years in Luxembourg. Findel airport has two clubs: Avia Sport and Aéro Sport.

In recent years, Luxembourg's two private aviation clubs have found themselves brooding over an uncertain future at Findel airport. As of late, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Aéro Sport counts around 600 members and trains 55 to 60 new pilots a year. The smaller Avia Sport club has 150 members and trains 15 young pilots a year.

The two clubs require an 800m runway in order to guarantee efficient flight training to the budding pilots. For this reason, both aviation clubs hope to keep their place at Findel airport.

According to the president of Luxembourg's pilot association Peter Sodermans, several constructive meetings with Luxairport officials have already taken place. The clubs are cautiously optimistic for the future.
