The funicular railway from Kirchberg to Pfaffenthal celebrated its first birthday on 10 December. Just before the anniversary, the 1,500,000th passenger was counted.

On Tuesday, the national railway company CFL put out a statement celebrating not only the funicular's one-year anniversary, but also its 1,500,000th passenger, who was counted just a couple of hours before.

One cabin holds enough space for 168 people and the funicular has a total of four cable car cabins. It covers a distance of only 200 metres and connects Kirchberg to the train station and Pfaffenthal below.

The Luxembourg funicular is one of the shortest in the whole world. With each cable car measuring about 12 metres in length, the funicular has already covered 6% of its total route just by standing at the starting point.
