In order to prepare for the national holiday on 23 June, helicopters and planes flew over Avenue de la Porte-Neuve in the Luxembourg Gare area on Wednesday.

The military planes were of the type Hercules and Airbus A400M. Two military helicopters will also take to the sky over Luxembourg City on 23 June, along with a military parade that will be taking place in honour of the Grand Duke's official birthday.

To make the manoeuvres safe, they have to be planned and practised. On Wednesday around 12am, they flew low over Avenue de la Porte-Neuve close to Luxembourg City's central train station.

Military helicopters over Luxembourg City

The military parade will hold its general rehearsal of the with military and civilian vehicles on Monday evening around 8.30pm. Avenue de la Porte-Neuve will be closed to traffic during that time.

The official ceremony to mark the Grand Duke's birthday will be taking place on Saturday morning 23 June and the military parade, as well as the Te Deum service at the Luxembourg City cathedral, will be shown live on RTL TV, on RTL radio and on
