A man suffering from autism was before a Luxembourg court on Tuesday accused of having physically harmed his baby in 2013 in Saeul, causing the child several fractures.

The man, who suffers from a form of autism, is accused of having beaten his baby so badly that he fractured the right collarbone, six ribs and the left shin bone and calf.

The prosecutor in the case being heard at Luxembourg’s Court of Appeal has asked for a 5-year prison sentence, with a 3-year suspended sentence. The father is charged with assault and battery on his own child. The Court of First Instance had handed him a sentence of 8 years, 5 of which were a suspended prison sentence.

The Court of Appeal will pronounce the sentence on 10 July.
