In March, spring is in the air, this is the right time to start getting busy in your garden. You can already dig in a layer of compost and sow the first carrots.
Carrots are still available as stocked goods. They are best stored in a cool place in sand, at least that’s what our grandparents did. Simply cover the carrots completely with sand in a box or bucket. The sand should be damp but not wet, this way the carrots will last for a few weeks.
In March, fresh-picked produce is also available such as different types of cabbage, leeks and lamb’s lettuce.
By the way, these small and tender rosettes taste best with nut oil, which is also produced here in Luxembourg.
And, finally, a good tip for harvesting lamb’s lettuce: although it tolerates the cold relatively well, even temperatures below zero, you should never cut this salad when the soil is frozen or else it will smell terribly.
