The sad news of the death of Count Philippe de Lannoy, father of Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie came on Friday 11 January. Funeral services for Count de Lannoy took place on Wednesday in Anvaing, Belgium, the family's ancestral seat.

Philippe de Lannoy was born in Anvaing Castle, raised his eight children there and lived there until his death on 10 January 2019.

Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie had the support of her husband during this difficult time. Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume attended the funeral services with his wife and Grand Duke Henri, Princess Alexandra and Prince Louis were also in attendance.

Grand Duchess Maria Teresa could not attended the funeral as she had a long-standing engagement in France on that day. French-Luxembourgish journalist Stéphane Bern was awarded the Prix Patrimoine and the Prix Histoire at the Institut de France. The awards were presented to him by Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and France's First Lady Brigitte Macron.

A statement by the Grand Ducal Court said that even though she could not be at the funeral, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa is "very close to her daughter-in-law" and kept her in her heart and mind throughout this difficult day.
