The coronavirus crisis continues to be omnipresent... and now even in traffic, it seems.
A Belgian driver reportedly managed to officially register a personalised "Covid-19" license plate. He successfully handed in his application on 11 May. A spokeswoman of Belgium's FPS mobility confirmed that the unusual request was actually granted.
She explained that "there is nothing defamatory, racist or homophobic in this case. Nothing prevents someone registering their vehicle with the plate INFLUENZA if they wanted." The spokeswoman added: This is a personal choice and it's no more offbeat than HI HI HI and HA HA HA, which also exist."
The driver shelled out €1,000 for the registration plate. Belgium introduced personalised registration plates in 2014.
