The game, which is playable but still under development, was modelled on historical documents and photographs to be as realistic as possible.

The developers of Luxembourg 1867, who are all volunteers, based it on a game called Roblox — a so-called massively multiplayer online game, which also allows users to design levels and games of their own, which is precisely what they did.

Using historical photographs and documents, they built the area of Pfaffenthal as it is likely to have looked in the year 1867 — an important year in Luxembourg's history, which saw it becoming the capital of a fully independent state.

For the time being, in addition to exploring the city you can take on a job as, well, a dog poop collector.. which was apparently an actual job back then.

If you want to give it a go, the game is available for PC, Android, and Apple mobile devices.
