New restaurants keep opening in Cloche d'Or's new shopping centre. It's not quite a foodhall yet, but you can treat yourself to one or other nice meal.

Even though some designated spots for restaurants still need to be filled, there's already a pretty impressive range of restaurants to be tried out. Following the example of other shopping centres, different cuisines can be found all over the shopping area.

However, a big 'food hall' where everyone can sit down with a tray wherever they want was not planned. Here, every restaurant has its own atmosphere, with their own tables and crockery and offer either table or self-service. In addition, smaller food stands selling take-away food are scattered across the shopping centre, completing the offer.

Here is a small selection while we are waiting for the other restaurants to open.

1. BIG FERNAND

Big Fernand was the first to open its restaurant in the shopping centre. Big Fernand specialises in hamburgers and offers fast but good food rather than traditional fast food. The brand counts 50 restaurants in France and has adapted its concept to the trends of the moment: fresh products (well-bred meat, raw-milk cheese, handmade chips and plenty of sauces), a vintage and typically French look, and affordable prices.

In its ''studios'' (restaurants) Big Fernand offers several ''Hamburgés'': Big Fernand and Bartholomé (beef), Belphegor (beef, Tomme de Savoie cheese), Pierrot (chicken, goat's cheese), Victor (veal), Lucien (vegetarian) as well as ''Fernandines'' (homemade chips), and ''Falades'' (salads).

2. BUBBLIES

Also one of the first restaurants open, Bubblies is not a franchise but was conceived by the Châtelet team, a hotel and restaurant in the Gare district in the city.

The menu offers fresh and homemade foods with sweet and savoury options available from breakfast on. Salads, bowls, tartars, club sandwiches and bruschettas are completed by special daily dishes and original desserts. In the afternoons, they also offer a classic afternoon tea with a stand full of treats  and scones.

With a big window front, the restaurant has a cosy interior with an impressive bar in the centre. A variety of cocktails might also attract workers from the surrounding offices looking for a new after-work spot.

3. VICTORINE

Victorine is also a new franchise trying to set foot into Luxembourg, with an especially impressive focus on healthy food and products. 70% of their dishes are vegetarian or even vegan. Where possible, the restaurant chooses local and organic products. Finally, a large number of their recipes are gluten and lactose free. They do not use refined sugars or gelatine.

You can either eat in or take away salads, sandwiches, wraps, spring rolls, soups, tartares or ready meals in jars or punnets. On the beverage and desert side, Victorine has fresh juices, iced tea, plant milks and homemade deserts on offer.

4. BELLOTA BELLOTA

With 12 restaurants in France, the brand is known for its Iberian meat and the quality of its cut. The restaurant offers an Iberian counter which serves as table.

You can enjoy different types of  Iberian ham, chorizo, lomo and other sausages, which can be combined with cheeses and different sides such as salads, risotto or mash. A variety of seafood is also available, namely octopus, tuna or anchovies.

Every dish can be taken away and the restaurant has a varied menu of Spanish wines.

5. NAMUR

The well-known Luxembourgish brand has invested in a big and luminous space, where it has revealed a completely new concept which might foreshadow what the other branches might look like in the future. Classic tables are completed by comfortable sofas and a big central table which can be shared by several customers.

The idea is to show their know-how, by offering an insight into the kitchen as well as the bakery and pâtisserie. A novelty for the brand is a range of deli products. Food is offered from breakfast on and different offers are available throughout the day.

On the menu you can find some of the brand's classics: tartars, bouchée à la reine, salads and salmon but also a salad bar, sandwiches and of course a great variety of pâtisseries, the brand's speciality. Every day special dishes which have been created for the Cloche d'Or branch are available.
