The documentary, which was already nominated for two Oscars, has now received an award from the European Parliament.
"Collective" by German-Rumanian director Alexander Nanau was shortlisted together with "Another Round" by Danish director Thomas Vinterberg and "Corpus Christi" by Polish director Jan Komasa.
In the context of a EP meeting on Wednesday, the Luxembourgish coproduction was announced as the winner. The documentary focuses on corruption and lies around a fire in a club in Bucharest.
The prize was awarded for the first time this year. It is a joint initiative between the European Parliament, the European Film Academy, the European Commission, Europa Cinemas, as well as the Pierre Werner Institute. EU citizens were also able to cast a vote for their favourites.
