Under the slogan "Hop Hop an de Musée", 49 museums throughout the country will be taking part in this year's edition, marking a new record.

Last year marked the event's 20th anniversary, previously known under the name of "Invitation aux musées". The "Luxembourg Museum Days" took the anniversary as an opportunity to renew its image.

The state secretary to the ministry of culture Guy Arendt said in a presentation on Tuesday that the event aims to minimise people's prejudices about museum visits and to instil a sense of excitement in visitors.

"Museums are for everyone. People with certain preconceptions about museums are encouraged to go for it and just say "Alright, let's go to the museum today!""

New record has been set

With 49 museums announced to take part, a new record has already been set. Taking part for the first time this year will be the "Muebelsmillen" museum in Luxembourg City, the firefighter museum in Senningen, General Patton Memorial Museum in Ettelbruck and the distillery museum in Kehlen.

More than 170 activities for grown-ups and children will be offered throughout the weekend, including 120 tours and 25 workshops.
