The MUDAM modern art museum has announced its new scientific committee.

From 2018 to 2021, the committee will include Nancy Spector, an artistic director and head curator of New York's R. Guggenheim Foundation; Daniel Birnbaum, the director of Stockholm's Moderna Museet and Okwui Enwezor, the director of the Haus de Kunst institution in Munich.

MUDAM says that choosing its committee with well-known personalities from major international cultural institutions demonstrates its ambition for its contemporary art collection.

Assisting MUDAM management

As experts in the area of contemporary art and museum collections, the three guest members will assist MUDAM's management with their knowledge in order to encourage its thinking about the MUDAM Collection's acquisition strategy, in line with its existing collection.

The committee will work closely with Suzanne Cotter, the MUDAM director, who will oversee the scientific committee, in identifying works to acquire in the development of a reference collection.

It will meet up to twice a year with Jeff Erpelding, a member of Mudam's board of directors. The acquisition recommendations will be presented to the board of directors twice a year for approval, within the budget set aside for new acquisitions.
