The EU Commission will be presenting its plan to reduce dependency on Russian gas and oil in the long term.

Luxembourg's Minister for Energy was clear in his interview with German news agency DPA: what the EU needs is two days of working from home a week and an EU-wide, coordinated speed limit.

Coupled with car-free Sundays in larger cities, these measures could save around 2.5 million barrels of petrol, said the politician from déi Gréng.

He stressed that he would urge the EU Commission not to miss this opportunity to get Europe started in the right direction.

This in the context of the Commission's plan to reduce dependency on Russian oil and gas, which will be presented on Wednesday. The idea is that by 2030, 45% of all energy used will come from renewable sources.

What's certain is that this will require a massive investment. Experts estimate that freeing ourselves from Russian energy will cost at least 200 billion euros.
