Three student dormitories in Koblenz are under quarantine and authorities are now awaiting the first results of a large-scale test of residents.

A spokeswoman for the District Administration of Mayen-Koblenz stated that results were to be expected later today.

The three dormitories in the Karthaus district had been quarantined on Wednesday after an outbreak of coronavirus was detected.

Three residents had experienced symptoms and went to hospital for routine checks. A quick test late on Tuesday night was returned positive.

Persons who had been in contact with the students and were showing symptoms were also tested.

City officials said 188 residents were tested on Wednesday.

The dormitories are home to around 350 students during term time.

According to the district administration, not all residents are currently in Koblenz.
