The lorry caught fire on Tuesday evening, close to Maizière-lès-Metz on the A31 motorway. The incident caused disruption to traffic on one of the region’s busiest roads.
The driver purportedly escaped the vehicle before it was too late. The fire caused blasts which were heard throughout the surrounding area.
The incident required six fire engines and 15 firefighters to get the blaze under control, as tons of plastic material burned.
