The old brewery in Diekirch has been out of business since March 2019. Demolition of the site began at the end of August this year to make room for a new residential and commercial area, which will be called 'Dräieck Dikrech' ('Diekirch Triangle'). Apartments, offices, and businesses are thus expected to revitalise the town quarter in the near future.
The former administrative buildings have already been torn down. The machines in the old production units are also being removed at the moment. According to a statement from Matexi and Saphir Capital, who own the site, the first wave of construction work is expected to be completed by April 2023.
Régis Ortmans, regional director of Matexi, noted: "At the same time, we will work on the general development of the project. We have had the particular building plan since 2014 and we know where we want to go. We are discussing details with a series of partners and potential clients, including the city of Diekirch."
Construction of the site, which extends over 25,000 square metres, is expected to be done by 2027. The former sugar factory, a protected building that almost burned down completely in April last year, will also be redesigned to make room for a café, shops, offices, and apartments.
