The 25-year-old racer from Luxembourg secured the title in the 2022 Porsche Supercup at the Monza Circuit in Italy on Sunday. Pereira finished the last race of the season as fifth, which was enough for him to secure the overall victory for this year's season.
Although Pereira initially finished as third, he was later awarded a three-second penalty for cutting short in the final lap of the race, which put him back in fifth position.
Last year's winner Larry ten Voorde put a significant amount of pressure on Pereira throughout the race, and thanks to latter's penalty, the Dutchman finished on rank three behind Bastian Buus (DEN) and Harry King (GBR). German racer Laurin Heinrich had an unsuccessful start to the race and finished as tenth, which deprived him of any chances of still securing the title.
At the end of the season, Pereira was thus crowned champion with a 13-point lead on ten Voorde. The Luxembourgish racer won three races this season, in Imola, Spielberg, and Spa-Francorchamps.
His team, BWT Lechner Racing, has also won the team's championship with 175 points ahead of SSR Huber Racing (105 points) and Team GP Elite (99 points).
