Demolition work has begun on buildings around Diekirch's former sugar factory - part of which will be retained under protected status.
The factory, which suffered damage in a fire in April 2021, will be completely cleared inside. It is not yet known what will be done with the rest of the building.
The old tower was originally designed to be preserved, but will now be torn down due to extensive damage. However, the distinctive "hump" will be preserved and integrated in the future "Dräieck Dikrech" project, which will include the construction of homes, shops and offices.
