On Monday 1 August, the government will once again test its national alert system with a warning message, which will be sent to people residing in the south of the Grand Duchy.
The government is currently revising its strategy for countrywide emergency situations. A new test alert will therefore be sent out today to simulate the circumstances of a an emergency, such as a natural disaster or industrial accident.
People living in the municipalities of Differdange, Pétange, Bascharage, and Sanem will receive a message with the following text: "LU-ALERT / ALERTE TEST / NO ACTION REQUIRED / AUCUNE ACTION REQUISE / KEINE HANDLUNG ERFORDERLICH / INFOS: GD.LU/LU-ALERT."
The Ministry of State, Ministry for Home Affairs, and the High Commissariat for National Protection issued a joint statement to emphasise that a delay is to be expected, meaning not all people will receive the test message at the same time.
The goal of the test is to ensure that all warning channels are operative and can be used in the case of a real emergency. It should also give residents a sense of what to expect and prepare them to respond.
As of today, the government will also start sending a monthly test alert to all users of the 'GouvAlert' app.
