The National Health Fund (CNS) said that fewer people are choosing to enter care homes, opting for at-home care instead, according to 2021's insurance breakdown.
The number of insurance beneficiaries has increased by 2.7 percent from 2020 to now. However, the increase was notably higher for caregivers at home (3.6%) than for caregivers in establishments (1.1%). This could partly be explained by the effects of the pandemic, according to the National Health Fund, as elderly people were more reluctant to enter nursing homes due to the risk of outbreaks.
Around 1,500 people on average benefit from insurance dependency over the course of a year. Overall, 1.5 more people are cared for in their own homes, compared to nursing homes.
In 2021, the National Health Fund's revenue was 847.7 million euros (+8.5%) above current expenses, which reached 828.8 million euros (+11.1%). The global reserve amounted to 369.7 million euros at the end of 2021.
