The ING Night Marathon in Luxembourg City has a lot of volunteer helpers, but also required the presence of 250 first responders from the CGDIS, for a total of 2,400 work hours.

A third of them were full time CGDIS employees. This comes at a price: 26,000 euros, to be exact, half of which was paid by the marathon organiser. The other half fell to the city, but did not have to be paid due to a "demande de gratuité".

This request for free coverage is available to all municipalities every year within the taxation regulation. Luxembourg City made use of this for the marathon.

This was revealed as a response to a parliamentary question by Pirate MP Marg Goergen to ministers Taina Bofferding and Henri Kox.
