
MPs Sven Clement and Marc Goergen from the Pirate Party recently filed an urgent parliamentary enquiry concerned with ArcelorMittal’s alleged decision to continue providing the Russian market with steel despite sanctions.
Read also: ArcelorMittal allegedly resumes Russia steel deliveriesIn his response, Minister of the Economy Franz Fayot confirmed that Luxembourg-based ArcelorMittal continues to make use of its operations in Kazakhstan to deliver steel to Russia.
Minister Fayot underlined that every company is responsible for adhering to the sanctions issued against Russia since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. The LSAP politician further conveyed that the steel giant states that its subsidiary in Kazakhstan respects all due diligence directives.
Minister Fayot also explained that as a member of the Luxembourg government, he is not allowed to pass judgement on the business. Despite investments, the government is also not represented on the administrative board of the group.
Nevertheless, Minister Fayot explained that he insisted that all necessary precautions have to be taken so that steel deliveries to Russia are not appropriated for military purposes.
