
In the presence of Minister of Labour, Employment, and the Social and Solidarity Economy Georges Engel, the Inspectorate of Labour and Mines (ITM) presented its annual report for 2021.
The ITM handled nearly 80,000 cases in 2021. Additionally, 8,511 inspections were conducted on construction sites or in companies, with 2,874 inspections conducted to ensure compliance with the Covid-19 measures. The ITM discovered numerous labour law violations and the affected companies had to pay a total of €9.24 million in fines to the state.
The majority of the infringements found during the checks were related to the law on posting.
The ITM decided on six measures for human trafficking and 135 for undeclared work in 2021.
Last year, labour inspectors dealt with 150 workplace accidents, some of which were serious. 740 measures were issued in this area, with the majority of them being implemented.
Additionally, the ITM processed 7,500 business licence applications in 2021.
The ITM currently employs 213 employees, including 69 labour inspectors who work in the field to conduct inspections.
