On Tuesday, the Grand Ducal police collaborated with their Trier counterparts to conduct operations along the border.
Officers were supported by a mobile control and monitoring unit from Koblenz as temporary checkpoints were set up to monitor cross-border traffic along the BAB 64 and at the Dicke Buche car park.. The operation also carried out checks on train passengers.
In total, over 200 people in 70 vehicles were stopped. Several fines were issued for violations of residence and narcotics laws. In addition, police found two pupils aged 12 and 13 at the train station after skipping school. The girls were taken to their respective guardians.
A 27 year old Frenchman was arrested in the Upper Moselle area following two outstanding traffic offences. The Saarbrücken prosecutor's office sentenced the man to 80 days in prison, which could be circumvented provided he paid a €2,400 fine within two days. The fine was duly paid by an acquaintance.
