Bettembourg mayor Laurent Zeimet has been appointed to the State Council.

He will replace former district commissioner Charles Lampers, who left the body earlier this year after 11 years.

Three other CSV candidates had run for the vacant post beside Zeimet: Claudine Konsbruck, employed at the Ministry of Justice, lawyer Henry de Ron and Serge Sandt, former district commissioner and councillor of the Interior.

Laurent Zeimet won 42 of 54 votes, but will not have to resign his main job as the posts of mayor and member of the State Council can legally be held simultaneously.

Another vacant post will be taken over by the new director general of the Nordspidol hospital, doctor Paul Wirtgen. He will be taking over from lawyer Martine Lamesch, who left after only three years. This is another CSV post and has already been approved by the party's national committee.
