The Left have expressed their disappointment at the manifesto perimeters proposed for the Women's March on International Women's Day, 8 March 2022.
In a statement published on Friday afternoon, the party accused the government and Luxembourg City council of ducking responsibility and pushing decisions back and forth, with regard to the perimeters set up for protests in the capital.
The perimeter was decided in December following a series of increasingly violent anti-Covid demonstrations, and covers a specific area in the capital. The decision was taken by Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, to avoid protests spilling over into the city centre.
Déi Lénk have requested that the government clarifies its position on the perimeters, but also demands that the police and Luxembourg City municipal council analyse each registered protest on a case by case basis. As it stands, the Women's March, planned for 8 March, is expected to take place within the perimeter, but no decision has been confirmed as yet.
Luxembourg City mayor Lydie Polfer said the decision needed to be made at a national level; however, the relevant ministries claim it does not fall under their jurisdiction.
JIF Luxembourg, the platform behind International Women's Day action in the Grand Duchy, said they were determined to stage the march between the Gare and Place d'Armes on 8 March.
