Heavy rainfall over the past few hours has caused a significant rise in the water levels of most rivers in Luxembourg.

Within the span of only a few hours, the Alzette rose significantly enough for some local authorities to send out an official alert. In Steinsel, for instance, the river rose to 3.5 metres instead of the usual 0.9 metres, while in Mersch, it even rose beyond four metres. The Chiers in Pétange rose to 1.9 metres, far above its normal level of under one metre.

Nevertheless, since the early morning hours, water levels have also begun decreasing again throughout the country. Officials expect the Lower Sûre to reach its peak soon and start going down again after.

The Water Management Authority has put out a statement to announce that water levels in Ettelbruck will continue climbing until 10.00 a.m., but start decreasing again right after.

The CR154 between Alzingen and Syren is currently closed off due to flooding. Similarly, the Däich car park in Ettelbruck remains shut.
