The fitness federation is disappointed with the coronavirus regulations currently in place for the area of sport.

Despite being regular businesses they must follow the rules by the Ministry of Sport, rather than that of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, which are different.

Currently, gyms may only allow one member per 30m2, but a maximum of 10 people per hall, no matter whether the hall is 300m2 or 3000m2 in size. For many gym operators and their customers this is just not efficient and staying open remains a near impossible task, says the FLDF.

A letter was therefore sent to minister Lex Delles, proposing a sanitary concept that would allow gyms and fitness centres to continue their work. Customers, meanwhile, want to make use of their paid subscription - something the current restrictions are not making easier.
Should no relaxation of the rules be approved, all fitness centres in the country want to reopen their doors by 1 February at the latest, and then function via reservation tools where a customer can book a time slot.

If these businesses can't get back to work soon, the industry may well face bankruptcies very soon, the federation warns.
