Following hospital and ambulance staff, it is now the turn of retirement and care home employees, as well as care networks, to benefit from the Grand Duchy's vaccination campaign.

The SARS-CoV-2 vaccine campaign was launched in Luxembourg on Monday 28 December. Beginning with hospital and emergency staff, the campaign has now moved to vaccinating employees in retirement and care structures across the country, protecting those who care for the elderly and vulnerable.

Claudia Holzwarth, head of the care and supervision service (dementia unit) of the “Bei der Sauer” care home in Diekirch and Sonja Kohnen, care assistant at the Sanatorium in Vianden, were the first people to be vaccinated on Wednesday 30 December, at the Victor Hugo Hall vaccination centre in Limpertsberg.

1,200 people have been vaccinated to date as part of the campaign's first phase from 28-30 December. The second dose will be administered from 18 January, also at the Victor Hugo centre.

Both residents and cross-border workers will be covered in this first phase by the vaccine allocation plan.

In the first allocation phase for the BioNTech / Pfizer vaccine, a total of 9,700 vaccines were delivered to Luxembourg, allowing around 4,850 people to be vaccinated in the first phase.
