A parliamentary question by the CSV directed at Minister of Health Paulette Lenert asked whether the Luxembourg government had placed orders for vaccine jabs via the EU Commission-wide purchase.

Lenert responded that the government has positioned itself in such as way that further doses can be ordered via the Commission's network. Parallel to this option the government has established contact with pharmaceutical laboratories. What is to be understood by "contact" however, is unknown.

Earlier this week Prime Minister Xavier Bettel had noted that Luxembourg would follow the Commission's communication channels and not get hold of vaccines individually for one country.

The Commission has signed contracts with six different labs for a total of 1,89 billion vaccine doses. The vaccine by BioNTech/Pfizer remains the only one currently permitted on the European market.

A committee keeps an eye on whether the planned delivery dates can be kept, but due to the different contracts the EU can expect a continuous delivery of vaccines.
