The new law is set to apply from 26 December until 10 January.

The vote on the new Covid law took place in the Chamber this Thursday at 11am. The three governing parties (DP, Green and LSAP) voted in favour of the law, as did the CSV, passing it with a total of 52 votes. The ADR, Pirate Party and Left voted against the measures, as was predicted.

On Wednesday a new provision calling on all civil servants to report violations of isolation or quarantine to the public prosecutor's office had been withdrawn after sharp criticism.

The new measures will include a curfew as of 9pm and the closure of non-essential businesses, sports infrastructures, crèches and childcare, and a return to homeschooling for the first week of January.

The situation will be reevaluated early January to conclude what direction must be taken post 10 January.
