The commission has validated the signatures to a petition that requested a minute of silence for Covid-19 victims on New Year’s Eve.
In addition, the creator of the petition has called for the customary new year fireworks to be cancelled out of respect for those who lost their lives this year.
A number of MPs have issued reminders that people need to receive the permission from their local council to launch fireworks. The nationwide curfew from 11PM to 6AM remains in place on New Year’s Eve, too.
New petition: more people allowed to visit loved-ones over the holidays or one more bank holiday at the end of the pandemic
Six new petitions can be signed on the Parliament’s website, including one that calls for the number of people one can host over Christmas to be increased or for the curfew to be suspended on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
Another petition requests a new national bank holiday to be held at the end of the pandemic.
Yet another one is calling for police to conduct more frequent speed and alcohol controls while dismantling the existing speed cameras.
