"Passerell Luxembourg" is accusing the Foreign Affairs office of practicing improper conduct around asylum applications.
The human rights organisation has now taken the issue to the court of appeals, which it revealed in a press release on Tuesday morning. The case involves the official response given by Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean Asselborn to a parliamentary enquiry about asylum seekers. The LSAP politician denied claims that his office actively discourages people from applying.
Asselborn further conveyed that throughout the year, 1 in 2 asylum seekers had changed their minds and refrained from applying. Passerell Luxembourg considers this confirmation that people have been told not to file an application in the first place.
The organisation finally notes that even during the pandemic, a great number of asylum seekers turned to their services after being denied by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, there are several factors playing into this decision-process, which is why the application should not be discouraged by one of country's institutions.
