Last week averaged 550 new cases per day, which should be considered an alarming rate, the task force emphasises in its latest evaluation.

Scientists from Research Luxembourg provide the government with regular updates on the evolution of the virus in the country and make suggestions for potential countermeasures. It still remains of upmost importance to keep infection rates from becoming exponential so that hospitals may not be overstrained.

The task force thus concludes that further measures are necessary, as the number of active infections remains elevated, despite being more or less stable. The reproduction rate is currently set at 0.94. However, while the month of August averaged only 38 new infections per day, that rate has now risen to 550.

Prof Dr Paul Wilmes, spokesman for the Covid 19 task force, has been invited to tonight's edition of RTL Journal.
