During his interview, Hoffmann elaborated on the nature of complaints the union has received since the beginning of the pandemic, noting that most cases involve the cancellation of holidays, additional costs on construction sites, or the refusal to accept cash money.

The issue of payment methods alone generated over 80 complaints directed at ULC. A significant number of businesses still refuses to accept anything other than card payment, which Hoffmann condemns.

The union thus welcomes the introduction of a draft bill on class-action lawsuits, although some adaptations were still necessary in that regard, as for instance the focus on business interests. The proposed support for plaintiffs on the other hand is seen as insufficient.

If no adaptions in these aspects are made, Hoffmann fears that the bill will only look efficient on paper and will actually do little good in the real world.

Hoffmann also welcomed the proposed rent reform as a first step in the right direction, since it assures more protection for tenants. The general issue around elevated rents would nevertheless remain unsolved, he noted.
