The Tageblatt newspaper has reported conflict between staff and the current director, Hansjörg Reimer.

In particular, doctors have taken issue with some of Reimer's recent decisions. He is said to have failed to respect the correct procedure in appointing a successor for the position of medical director, after the previous medical director resigned in February. The board of directors was forced to intervene.

According to the Tageblatt report, the board has since hired a headhunter to find a replacement for Reimer. Sources indicate it is a matter of agreeing a severance payment for Reimer before making an official announcement; however, Georges Mischo, president of the board of directors, has refuted these claims.

The Tageblatt initially reported on the dissatisfaction behind the scenes at the Emile Mayrisch hospital centre some months ago, as employees struggled with the increasing stress due to the pandemic.

Medical professionals at the hospital are said to have made allegations of poor leadership, lack of assertiveness and lack of knowledge, with many taking aim at the board of directors as well, which is primarily made up of local politicians. Mischo, who is also deputy mayor of Esch-sur-Alzette, has rejected these allegations in the past.
