A security guard investigated the cause of the disturbance shortly after the alarm went off, but was attacked by the thief upon entering the building. The perpetrator was carrying a knife. The guard managed to defend himself and possibly inflicted a head injury upon the burglar, who fled into nearby woods following the encounter.
Several police patrols unsuccessfully launched a manhunt in an attempt to find him. The burglar was said to be wearing black trousers and a black hooded sweatshirt.
